Municipalities / local level

The law of 16 December 2008 on the reception and integration of foreigners in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg states that “integration is an endeavour that the State, municipalities and civil society accomplish together”.

The role of the municipalities is crucial in promoting the integration of foreigners into the host society and the coexistence of all residents of the municipality.

Municipalities are closest to the people and therefore most familiar with on-the-ground realities and the needs of the population.

Advisory committees on communal integration, created in 2011, are key partners in integration at the local level and play a real role as a bridge between foreigners and Luxembourgers, as well as between foreigners and politicians.
